Free Pattern Friday – Briar Rose Capelet

It’s Free Pattern Friday!

Today, the Briar Rose Capelet in Deluxe Bulky Superwash.

db-briar-rose-capelet-side-detail-blogYou’re familiar with the story of Briar Rose, right?  She’s the girl who was pricked by a spindle and fell asleep for a hundred years.  I’m sure many of us who have been bitten by the crafting bug and lost countless hours to projects can relate.   Fortunately, this project goes more quickly than Briar Rose’s sleep.

Sandi Rosner designed this capelet in Deluxe Bulky Superwash (106yds/100g) on size 10 1/2 needles.  Knitted from the top down in the round, there’s no seaming involved.

We think this looks like something a princess might wear to stay cozy while frolicking in the woods.  Who knows; if she was a spinner, maybe she also crafted her own accessories.

Bundle up, princess!

We hope you make your own happily ever after, starting today.

Happy crafting!

  1. Ref the “Wee Pumpkin” by Amy at http://universalyarn.com/pattern.php?pattern=983
It’s a 2014 pattern, but while knitting it, I tried to find the answers to two questions on your site, ravelry, & via an internet search. No one appears to have asked either.
Both puzzlers are in the Stem section part of “Resume Working in the Round.”
1 – ref 1st dec rnd – there are 8 sections & 0 decreases yet, but you’re only knitting 5 of the wedges as written in this line.
2 – ref 3rd dec rnd – the [sssk] is not explained in the pumpkin pdf or the blog or the abbreviations pdf at http://www.universalyarn.com/img/abbrevlist.pdf

I muddled through, but others may not be able to 🙂
    thank you

    1. Hi Charlotte,

Thanks so much for letting us know about this! I’ve just updated the pattern with a change to that first decrease round, and also a list of abbreviations used in the pattern.

      1. I charted it & figured out the 1st dec rnd was correct as written. It just didn’t start at the beginning of the round 🙂

        thank you

P.S. I’m going to send you an e-mail at patterns@universalyarn.com with a pdf attached

        1. Your modifications are making the rounds at the office and we love them. I’m planning to knit one up myself. Thanks!

  2. I am currently knitting the Briar Rose Poncho by Sandi Rosner. I am having problems with the border. With 76 cast on stitches and knitting 14 stitches, placing a marker before and after the eyelet pattern, I have a total of 8 markers. To remove markers on Rows 1, 3, and 5, as pattern instructs, would not all 8 markers be removed after Row 3 with none left to remove on Row 5? I’m sure I am misreading something with the pattern and would greatly appreciate your help. I am so looking forward to finishing the poncho to wear this fall! Help please!
