Free Pattern Friday – Chasing Vines Cowl
It’s Free Pattern Friday!
Today, the Chasing Vines Cowl in Cotton True Sport.
We’ve had a recent rush of rain here, and everything is green and growing and glorious. I was reminded of this again when looking at these photos from Jonas Farms, home to many a happy horse here in North Carolina.
Their hay fields ready to be cut…
And after more than a thousand bales have been put up.
Breathe deep, and imagine the glorious smell of cut grass, times infinity. You can’t help but think of green and growing things.
Enter the Chasing Vines Cowl.
Made in Fibra Natura Cotton True Sport(197yds/50g), our lightweight 100% Pima cotton, its lace design meanders from bottom to top. This is a great yarn for warm weather, soft without being stifling.
In the round, work a few rows of garter stitch, then launch into the lace. When you’ve reached your desired length, use a crochet hook to add a picot edging to the top and bottom, just for a little more texture. Weave in the ends, and voila.
The whole cowl takes two balls on a US size 4 (3.5mm) circular needle, or whatever gets you gauge.
This would go with most anything, but especially with a casual look, to add that finishing touch. With the below outfit, you could choose a blouse instead of a jacket and it would still work great. Really, with the cowl, jeans, and a one-color top, you’re ready to go pretty much anywhere.
We hope you take the time to get outside this weekend – we have some lovely Spring days left before it turns into a scorcher. Knit something light and enjoy the weather!
Happy knitting!
I’m confused by the cast off 12st on the sides of the Walking Bird pattern.
Hi, Vera! Our design team says:
This is such a pretty pattern – glad to hear you’re knitting it! Are you referring to this section?
Divide for Fronts and Back:
Next row (RS): Work 31 (35, 37, 41, 45) sts in est patt for Right Front, bind off next 8 (8, 12, 12, 12) sts, place Right Front sts on holder, work next 62 (70, 74, 82, 90) sts in est patt for Back, bind off next 8 (8, 12, 12, 12) sts, place Back sts on holder, work in est patt to end of row – 31 (35, 37, 41, 45) sts rem for Left Front.
You are binding off stitches for underarms. Up to this point, you have been working the cardigan body in one piece. Under the “Divide for Fronts and Back” section, you will now be working left front, right front, and back piece separately. The bind-offs in this section will fall underneath your arm. Does this make sense?
