Free Pattern Friday – Keyleth

Photo of a person wearing the Keyleth dress in a field of grass with text to the right saying "Free Pattern Friday - Keyleth crocheted in Flax"

Free Pattern Friday is here with another majestic crochet pattern for you! Keyleth, designed by Ashley Jane McIntyre, is a stunning dress using our 100% linen Flax yarn. Perhaps the best part of this project is the handy dandy pockets. However, there’s so much more to love about this piece, so let’s learn more!

Keyleth is crocheted sideways in three panels, using a stitch pattern that has the appearance of vertical ribbing. The panels will then be seamed together and the pockets are added afterwards. Other details include hip shaping, giving this dress a fabulous fit.

Now through Sunday, August 27th, save 20% off Flax. With 100% linen fibers, this yarn’s versatility allows it to shine in wearable pieces and homewares. Whether you want to knit a handbag or crochet a beautiful top, Flax can get the job done. The color palette includes 34 solid hues with many neutrals, brights, and more. Stock up today and save!

sleeveless knitted lace toddler dress paired with white top, laid flat. Text reads: Free Pattern Friday, Leaf Lace Dress in Magnolia

It’s Free Pattern Friday!

Light green sleeveless children's dress with lace skirt

Today, the Leaf Lace Dress knitted in Magnolia (pattern link here).

First, though, here is actual footage of me seeing this dress for the first time:

Teenage girl Anna from the movie Frozen squealing in excitement
Squeeeee!

So adorable. And such fun to knit! This raglan-sleeved project is worked largely in the round, beginning at the hem with gorgeous lace.

Look at this beautiful skirt! Designer Rachel Brockman has both written and charted this section to make it easy to follow. Rachel’s choice of Magnolia yarn for this design provides excellent drape and definition!

Colors Left to right: 109 Brunch, 114 Citrus Leaf, and 110 Frayed Denim

Magnolia‘s blend of 95% plant-based modal with 5% cashmere makes it cool in warm weather, but also gives it an extra touch of luxury! The stitch definition is divine, for maximum impact in that leaf lace skirt. It’s a soft, smooth yarn with a beautiful sheen – one of our favorites for summer. And since Magnolia is machine washable, it will be fine for the baby or toddler who makes the inevitable mess!

Sized from newborn through 18-24 months, this charming short frock would be perfect for so many occasions – I’m thinking specifically of a summer wedding I’m going to this month, where this would not be out of place at all. I’m also imagining the look on a prospective mom’s face getting this at a baby shower:

We hope you have a fantastic weekend, full of fun projects!

Happy crafting!

Free Pattern Friday – Picot Sundress

It’s Free Pattern Friday!
Today, the Picot Sundress in Cotton Supreme Batik (pattern link here). We’ve been having a good time recently looking through the pattern archives and finding cute designs that we think should be shared more widely. This adorable piece originally published in Cotton Supreme Book 2: Summer Supreme is one of them!
Self-striping Cotton Supreme Batik makes this dress great for summertime. Front and back are knit separately to keep the stripes nice and wide, but if you wanted much narrower stripes you could always modify this to be worked in the round.
As a bonus, this tea rose applique crocheted in Cotton Supreme is included in the free pattern! We put this on a pin back for the photo. Wouldn’t it look cute on a barrette or headband? We hope you have a fantastic weekend, full of green growing things and joy. Happy crafting!

Free Pattern Friday – Sakura Dress

It’s Free Pattern Friday!

Today, the Sakura Dress in Bamboo Pop (pattern link).

There’s just something magical about Spring.  It’s hard to resist the call of the outdoors when the first blooms are poking up.  It always puts us in mind of growing things, including the little people in our lives.

Enter the Sakura Dress.

This lightweight raglan-style piece is sized from newborn to 4 years.  Worked in the round from the bottom up, this sweet little knit uses one of my favorite warm-weather yarns, Bamboo Pop, in two coordinating colors, 215 Soothe and 125 Darling Pink.  I’m already thinking of what other colors might work – maybe light green with variegated 209 Jungle Life?  Or a lavender with purple?  These are the tough decisions, folks!

We hope you have a fantastic weekend.

Happy crafting!

Sunflower Dress in Garden_altWritten and charted, this crochet confection uses our Garden 10 100% mercerized Egyptian Giza cotton thread.  Garden comes in both 50 gram balls and in 500 gram cones, handy for larger projects.

This is exactly the kind of design that inspires me to stretch my wings when it comes to crochet.  Just gorgeous.

Happy crocheting!

Free Pattern Friday – Little Peep Dress

It’s Free Pattern Friday!

Little Peep Dress in Little BirdToday, something adorable!  The Little Peep Dress is designed in soft, smooth Little Bird.  It’s a sleek, high quality 100% acrylic that knits up easily here on a US Size 3 needle.

Little Bird 3 balls

Designer Amy Gunderson was inspired by the figures on the Little Bird label to create a cute set of feathered friends suitable for any little chickadee.  This is a great warm-weather dress for Spring.

These birds are a classic example of the kind of designs you can make with intarsia.  If you’re participating in our afghan knitalong, these would be a great use for your new skills (which we’ll be refining further with our new square on Monday).

Happy knitting!

Free Pattern Friday – Umbrella Dress

It’s Free Pattern Friday!

If last week we were snowed in, this week Mother Nature has decided to showcase everything else.  Sunny and 70 degrees yesterday, strong gusts of wind last night, and now a real gullywasher of a rainstorm.

Fortunately, we’re crafters.  We know what to do when we’re stuck inside.  Today we’re thumbing our nose at the nasty weather with the Umbrella Dress in Classic Shades.

Umbrella Dress_ClassicShades

The dress is knit in panels – four for the front, four for the back, and two for each sleeve.  The collar is knit separately in the round.  It’s all stitched together and voila!  A colorful dress to chase away the rainy day blues.
