It’s warm here today, so it seems like a good day to highlight the most popular design from our summer collection Desert Dreams.
As the cover says, this is a collection of six knit and crochet projects in wool/linen/cotton/bamboo blend Unity and its self-shading sister Unity Beyond.
This complex fiber blend creates a yarn with a lot of texture and character. Its high plant content helps a piece like the Karakum Kimono (shown on the cover of the e-book) be suitable for warmer weather. Maybe not the dog days that we get here in the South, but certainly on a summer evening when it’s cooled off just a bit.
The Karakum Kimono was designed by Rachel Brockman. An avid explorer of the outdoors, she took her inspiration from the vistas of the Karakum Desert in the heart of Central Asia.
Making the Karakum Kimono is like going on a knitting adventure. And at the end of your journey, you get the most wonderful treat – your new favorite garment.
This oversized cardigan is knit from the bottom up in pieces and seamed, giving important stability to the piece. The only shaping occurs at the front neck opening, allowing you to focus on stitches.
Extra special details include striped seed stitch, contrasting lace, and adorable short little fringe.
There are three sizes – Extra Small/Small/Medium, Large/1X/2X, and 3X/4X. Options for Larger and Smaller sleeves are included for all sizes. The model wears size Extra Small/Small/Medium with Larger Sleeves.
The piece itself is not overly complex to knit – once you’re into the body, it makes good “conversation” knitting.
You can find the Karakum Kimono and the rest of the Desert Dreams e-book on Ravelry.
Happy knitting!
