Our 2024 Crafting Goals

We hope you accomplished all the crafting goals that you set out for in 2023, but if not, 2024 is a new opportunity! Our team has gathered together to come up with exciting personal crafting goals for the new year, and we want to hear yours as well. We invite you to take a peek below to check our teams aspirations for the year ahead!

Aubrey: “In 2024, I hope to get back into doing more hand embroidery on knitwear and ready-to-wear clothing! I loved designing the Verbena Pullover and getting to do the hand embroidery on that sample, so it would be exciting to expand my knowledge of hand embroidering on knits this year. We have some yarns in our line that will work fabulously for this, like Magnolia. This fingering weight yarn is delicate enough to show off complex embroidery designs and has a silky-smooth finish. Embroidery adds a touch of uniqueness to your projects or your everyday clothes, and the customization element makes them feel extra special and artistic.”

Ashley Jane: “I am a crocheter, but I have been taking on more and more knit projects. This year, my big resolutions are to try some new projects that would help me grow my knitting skills! First up, I want to try out the Forager Socks, designed by Rachel Brockman. They feature some beautiful lacework, which I have yet to try, so I am very excited about them. These socks call for Filly, which is a blend of 46% cotton, 33% superwash merino, 12% polyamide, and 9% PBT. It comes in 6 self-shading hues that are perfect for springtime. I think the color choices, along with the open lace design will make for a perfect warm-weather pair.

The other skill I want to try is cables, so I want to make myself the Carillon sweater, designed by Aubrey Busek Gray. I adore the twisting design on the front, and the overall elegance of this piece, which is enhanced by the 100% wool yarn, Deluxe Worsted. This yarn is available in over 80 colors, some of which are natural, undyed marvels. While the cabling may be a new challenge for me, I think the hardest part of this sweater will be choosing a favorite color!”

Afifa: “I knit my very first pair of socks last year and am now obsessed and want to hone my sock-knitting skills. I am excited to work on the Tempera Socks designed by Aubrey Busek. I love the combination of stripes and lacework in this pattern. The pattern is designed for Uni Merino, a blend of soft superwash merino wool and nylon, perfect for socks. With the wide range of shades available, the potential color combinations are endless. Here’s to having a drawer full of hand-knit socks by the end of the year!”

Robert: “As someone who never crafted much before my time here, 2023 was full of trying new things. As 2024 continues, I would like to take more time to weave and crochet, as I find these crafts relaxing. Universal Yarn has a beautiful display of yarns, but I am eyeing Zesty Sock for a few squares on the Zoom Loom.”

  1. I have been knitting for many years and now that I’m retired and widowed, I have become obsessed with fair isle patterns.
My 2024 goals include honing my steeking skills and finishing the several projects in my queue before getting too excited about some new pattern I find.

  2. I knit and crochet primarily for charity. Blankets, Prayer shawls, hats, scarves. Quick easy patterns that consume leftover odds and ends of yarn are ideal for me as I am frequently gifted with single skeins and the of bits of leftover yarn from others’ projects. My goal is to use up my growing stash before it consumes me!

  3. My 2024 goal is to finish a mitered square pin wheel pattern I designed ( It’s about 1/3 of the way completed) and to complete as many of my purchased German patterns as time will allow in the new year.

  4. I have a goal of making Amigurumi for each of my 10 great nephews and nieces, along with some UFOs (unfinished objects) that need completion. If/when I get all that done, I want to venture into the world of stranded colorwork with some Lopi yarn and make my own lopapeysa.

  5. I want to develop my Tunisian and mosaic crochet skills more, and do a lot more pin loom weaving on my huge stash of looms and do more freeform combining of all my crafts with beading and embroidery especially involved. As you can guess, I’m someone who does better with a lot of little projects or ones that are combinations than doing large ones.

  6. I’m trying to get back into the groove of knitting. After dealing with some pretty rough mental health issues the last few years, I’m ready to get back to my hyperfixation of yarn, knitting, and designing.
I’m starting small so I don’t burn myself out and taking time to enjoy the process of creating something.
And one of the things that I feel is probably the most important part of all this – I’m not gonna beat myself up if I’m not knitting as fast or making as many knitted items as I have in the past. I refuse to be in a race with my past self. The end goal is to enjoy my creative time and enjoy the art of knitting.

  7. My goal this year is to finally understand how to figure out ease, positive or negative and make a sweater I love.

  8. I hope to make more things to donate to local organizations that help the homeless and to hospitals.
I also hope to make blankets for each member of my family; 7.
Last goal is to start early on Christmas projects.

  9. I’m a crocheter & have started so many projects because I keep seeing yarns and patterns that I love. My goals for 2024 are 1. to go through all of my current WIPs/UFOs and either finish or decide it wasn’t meant to be and frog the project, 2. start learning Tunisian crochet and 3. buy some of the yarns on my wish list.

  10. 2024 knitting goals include finishing everything I started in 2023 and frogging things that began before that. I also want to tackle ladder-back jacquard and a brioche project that’s been calling my name for a few years. If i buy yarn it has to be for a project i’m casting on in 30 days. (HAHAHA) ok – so i collect yarn and patterns, too. So it might be time to embrace that.

  11. My goals for 2024:
Complete 10 projects, start spinning (love handspun artsy yarn), learn tatting, learn intarsia in knits, set up my winder & swift LOL 😆, make a fringed poncho and my first shawl 💗

  12. My goal this year is to truly work through my stash. I have really stocked up over the past few years and have projects waiting for my attention.

  13. My goals for 2024 are twofold.
    1. Use up my Java (LOVE that yarn) stash crocheting scatter rugs, and
    2. Crochet some windowpane lace nightgown yokes since my old nightgowns are getting pretty tired-looking.
Oh, and 3. Crochet or knit a sweater for my stuffed Ricorumi rabbit (I used Light & Long tweed.) to wear at Easter. Might do Fairisle? Irish lace? Still awaiting inspiration.
    Cheers, Celia

  14. 1. Complete the six gift projects in my queue — one finished 1/7!
    2. Get my craft room back in shape. The pandemic, people moving and out of the house, and grief at my mom’s passing really affected my ability to stay organized. There are fun craft projects of all kinds waiting for me in there!
    3. Decrease my stash by finding way to combine the yarns I already own — lots of single skeins, many of which are self-striping or variegated.

    1. Linda, at the county fair I once saw a cool afghan made out of all different yarns (probably all the same weight?). The knitter just started in the middle with a rectangle and went around, changing yarns every row. It was Beautiful!
