Collection Spotlight: Power Play

The Power Play collection is all about contrast — strength and softness, structure and drape, everyday staples and eye-catching details. Designed with a modern, wearable edge, each piece showcases the unique characteristics of the featured yarns, blending unexpected fibers like silk and linen with laid-back silhouettes and contemporary stitchwork.

Let’s take a closer look at each pattern in the collection:

Like its name suggests, Effervescence is bubbly and breezy — a sideways knit tee with a subtle eyelet motif, topped with a puff sleeve shrug that feels effortlessly feminine. This set is knit in our favorite warm weather yarns, Sandcastle and Dunescape.

Ethereal lives up to its name. This wrap is feather-light. The minimalist stitch patterns let the yarn shine, especially in Rico Design’s Make it Tweed, which practically floats off the needles, paired with Rico Design’s Super Cotton DK to keep it grounded.

Magnetic is an oversized polo with bold energy — a piece that pulls you in with its texture. The slouchy sleeves and drop shoulder construction create a relaxed silhouette that’s all about impact. It’s cozy yet breathable, thanks to the combination of Fibra Natura Flax and Rico Design Essentials Super Kid Mohair Loves Silk Glamorous Glitter, and it brings instant cool to anything from jeans to slip skirts.

Wonder and Whimsy take accessorizing to a daring new level. This two-piece set offers maximum versatility and charm. The shawl features drop stitches framed by bold textured chains, while the kerchief adds a layer of casual cool with its mosaic colorwork. Wear them together for a coordinated moment, or mix and match with your wardrobe. Rico Design Luxury Natural Silk Blend adds a lux touch while the bright colors of Fonty Soyeuse give a beachy vibe to both pieces.

Each design in the Power Play collection offers something special — whether it’s a hint of sparkle, a pop of color, or a perfectly placed puff sleeve. Unified by their thoughtful construction and playful edge, these knits are modern wardrobe builders designed to celebrate the duality in all of us: soft yet strong.

As the seasons shift, the Beechnut Pullover emerges as a quintessential piece for your transitional wardrobe. This elegant sweater captures the essence of beech trees, featuring intricate lace panels along the sleeves that mirror the delicate beauty of leaves.

What sets the Beechnut Pullover apart is its innovative construction. The journey begins with knitting the lace sleeve panels, allowing you to immerse yourself in the detailed leaf motifs. Originally crafted using Papyrus, the pattern has been updated to feature Wool Pop. This DK-weight yarn, composed of 50% bamboo, 35% superwash wool, and 15% polyamide, offers a soft drape and subtle sheen, enhancing the pullover’s refined appearance.

Free Pattern Friday – Whirlwind Stripes Throw

Happy Free Pattern Friday, crafters! Today we are treating you to a brand new homewares pattern – the Whirlwind Stripes Throw, designed by me!

There’s something truly mesmerizing about circular knitted throws—they radiate warmth, symmetry, and endless charm. When paired with a self-striping yarn like Deluxe Stripes, the results are nothing short of magical!

Circular throws add a unique visual appeal compared to traditional square or rectangular blankets. They drape beautifully over furniture, make perfect statement pieces for cozy nooks, and work wonderfully as lap blankets or decorative accents.

With Deluxe Stripes, the colors flow seamlessly in rings, highlighting the radial symmetry of the pattern without needing to weave in a bunch of ends from color changes—what a win!

Flash Pattern Friday – Illuvia Shawl

Hi Crafters! As you gear up for the start of the spring season, we’re releasing one of my designs free this weekend only which will be a great outfit topper for transitional weather. It was also the first pattern I ever designed for Universal Yarn!

The Illuvia Shawl is a sampler-style shawl knit using Universal Yarn Wool Pop and Rico Design Creative Lazy Hazy Summer Cotton. I originally designed this shawl in 2019 as part of our Dona Color Kits, but we reimagined it with new yarns and a new vibrant colorway in 2023. I absolutely adore this new version!

The Illuvia Shawl is inspired by the way water falls on various surfaces. From rain showers to gentle melting snowfall, I wanted this shawl to feel soothing and therapeutic to knit, changing from one section to the next. Knitting is already relaxing, and working on a project while curled up on the couch on a rainy day is even better!

Knitting the Illuvia Shawl allows you to try out a selection of textured stitch patterns in different colors. You’ll get to work with slip stitches, twisted stitches, and many knits and purls throughout this project. This shawl is a great pattern choice for beginner knitters looking to grow their skillset, or experienced crafters who enjoy sampler-style projects.

Our Wool Pop yarn is a soft and springy DK weight blend of superwash wool, bamboo, and polyamide. It has excellent stitch definition and a subtle sheen that looks gorgeous in textured stitch patterns. This yarn is a great choice for three-season wear, thanks to the blend of fibers. Rico Design Lazy Hazy Summer Cotton provides pops of color and texture to some of the details in this accessory, and has become a fast-favorite yarn of our own design team.

Now through Sunday, March 2, you can enjoy both of these beautiful yarns at 20% off!

I hope you enjoy knitting the Illuvia Shawl, and please share your projects with me on Ravelry!

Happy Crafting,

Aubrey

Free Pattern Friday – Frosted Leaves Wrap

Header Image showing the Frosted Leaves Wrap and Wool Pop Yarn

Hello and Happy Holidays, crafters! We hope you’ve enjoyed some quality time with your family or friends this holiday season, and also had time for your favorite fiber arts!

This week, our Free Pattern Friday release is the Frosted Leaves Wrap, designed by Andi Javori. Knit using Wool Pop, this lacy wrap will be a beautiful addition to any winter ensemble! Keep reading below to learn more about this stunning pattern.

The Frosted Leaves wrap is knit flat from the bottom up and features a lace stitch pattern worked on the main body of the piece. If you’re not an expert with lace, don’t fret! This pattern is a 13-stitch repeat that is fairly easy to memorize and uses only basic increases and decreases. The resulting pattern is reminiscent of pretty snow covered leaves, hence the name!

Our Wool Pop yarn was chosen for this project, thanks to its graceful drape and sheen. This DK-weight blend of bamboo, wool, and polyamide looks gorgeous in lace and other textured stitch patterns. Thanks to Wool Pop’s fiber blend, it’s suitable to wear year-round!

Designer Andi Javori chose the color 619 Blue Whisper for this project sample, which I think is a perfect icy winter blue. Which color would you choose to knit the Frosted Leaves Wrap in? I think I’d choose 627 Empress, because I love wearing purple.

We hope you enjoy knitting the new free Frosted Leaves Wrap! Don’t forget that Wool Pop is 20% off this weekend only to coincide with this pattern release, so you can grab the yarn you need at a discount!

Happy Holiday Crafting,

Aubrey
