Free Pattern Friday – TNNA Vest

It’s Free Pattern Friday!

Today, the TNNA Vest knit in Bamboo Pop (pattern link here).

This vest was inspired by an idea we had a couple of years ago.  In 2016, we designed the TNNA Cardi and all wore it to the National Needlearts Association’s tradeshow, the event where we get to meet with our LYS owner friends and show them what’s new for the sesaon.

The cardi looked and fit great, but wasn’t really tailored to the guys attending.  This year, we’re fixing that!

The TNNA Vest is also knitted in Bamboo Pop color 107 Ocean (gotta match!), but it replaces lace with different stitch patterns.    The V panel in the center recalls the diagonal lace of the original cardi.  The largest size (4X) only takes 5 balls – Bamboo Pop goes a long way!

Free Pattern Friday – Bellissima Cardi

It’s Free Pattern Friday!

Today, the Bellissima Cardi in Bella Cash (pattern link here).

Such a beauty.  The Bellissima Cardi is a classic lightweight cardi with classic construction.

Knit it from the bottom up in pieces, then seam.

Bella Cash superwash merino/nylon/cashmere blend creates a soft, lightweight material that moves with you and looks flattering.  We love it on size 2 (2.75mm) needles for the Fair Isle yoke.  Crisp and well-defined, with a beautiful, smooth texture.

Even though the stitches are delicate, the fabric is machine washable and durable, thanks to the nylon and superwash merino content in Bella Cash.  Sized small through 4X, this is a great wardrobe staple. Hard to believe it’s a free pattern!

Free Pattern Friday – Double Up Hat

It’s Free Pattern Friday!

Today, the Double Up Hat in Amphora and Whisper Lace (pattern link here).

Remember the adorable baby in the Sunset Slouch?

His mom Krista designed a hat for us this week!  Krista works in Customer Service here, and this is her source of inspiration:

Yes, we do work in paradise.

This is a small section of the big wall of sample balls that she sits next to in Customer Service.  We keep these to send to magazines and shops who want to touch the yarn for themselves, but of course since we’re all crafters here we also eye them hungrily ourselves.  It’s only natural that we sometimes look at them and think, “you know, these would go great together!”

The Double Up Hat combines brushed DK/light worsted Amphora and superfine Whisper Lace wool/lace blend to make this worsted weight hat with a subtle heathered look.

The two yarns together create a lovely halo effect.

I’ve been wondering how this would look with Whisper Lace in one of the more variegated tones.  Let’s grab a selection from the Big Wall o’ Yarn to see.

Free Pattern Friday – Little Acorn

It’s Free Pattern Friday!

Today, Little Acorn in Adore (pattern link).

Little Acorn comes to us from Anita Closic, proprietor of A Garden of Yarn in Chadds Ford, Pa.  Like so many LYS folks, Anita’s a sweetheart – she also gifted our customer service team (Katie and Angie) with scarves, which they haven’t stopped raving about. Nobody appreciates crafting like crafters!  Thanks, Anita!

Little Acorn is a reference to the seed from which mighty oaks grow. It’s a lovely topper that’s sized from baby through adult, with just one skein of Adore (100g/273yds) required for any size.

The hat is worked from the scalloped brim up, in the round on US size 6 (4mm) needles, or whatever gets you gauge.  Accent it with coordinating buttons for a special touch.

Free Pattern Friday – Hidden Treasure Poncho

It’s Free Pattern Friday!

Today, the Hidden Treasure Poncho in Major (link here).

There’s actually not much hidden about today’s pattern. There is, however, a lot to treasure.  This poncho uses self-striping Major, which comes in ginormous 200g balls.  Here’s a picture – Amy Gunderson for scale.

Peekaboo!

This yarn is a favorite because it’s easy to get a substantial project out of very few balls.   Today’s design, for instance, calls for just three.

On size 10½ (6.5mm) needles, make two rectangles, then seam at the shoulders.  Pick up and knit around for the ribbed collar, and you’re done.  The stitch pattern is both written and charted, and doesn’t require a cable needle.

Last step: wear and treasure your work.

Free Pattern Friday – Blissful Tee

It’s Free Pattern Friday!

Today, the Blissful Tee in Cotton True Sport.

 

Just looking at this top makes me happy.  It’s a charming design in our Fibra Natura Cotton True Sport, a 100% Pima cotton that’s quite pleasant to work with.  It’s the kind of basic top that would look great with jeans or a skirt, plus maybe a little silver jewelry.  The lace detail at the top, which is charted and written, keeps it from being too plain.

 

Work it from the hem up in two pieces, then join together.  We call for a US Size 4 (3.5mm) needle for the body, but of course use whatever will get you gauge – 6 stitches per inch in this case.  It makes a lightweight cotton fabric that’s perfect for summer.

It’s Free Pattern Friday!

Swingy in Bamboo Pop

Today, Amy Gunderson brings us Swingy in Bamboo Pop.

Swingy sleeve detailAfter releasing our E-Book Bamboo Pop Kids we had quite a few requests for an adult pattern in Bamboo Pop (292yds/100g), our popular cotton/bamboo blend.  This lightweight swingy cardi fits the bill.

Worked with raglan shaping from the top down, there is no seaming involved.  This is the kind of loose, drapey jacket you reach for when you want comfort as well as style.
