March’s Spotlight Friday – Happy Joy Hoodie

It’s the second Friday of the month, and that means it’s time to spotlight another one of our all-time faves! This month, we’ve chosen a pattern that’s sure to make your little one the envy of the playground – the adorable Happy Joy Hoodie by our very own Universal Yarn Design Team!

This comfy cardi is knit flat in pieces from the bottom up and seamed. Stitches are picked up to add a cozy hood and ribbed button band. The Happy Joy Hoodie is knit in two colors of our popular Bamboo Pop yarn – one solid and one multi – to create vibrant stripes. Garter rows bring a playful texture to the sweater.

This cute little number is sure to elicit a smile from your kiddo when they see the beautiful, bright colors and feel the silky softness of Bamboo Pop. And just think how sweet they’ll look bundled up in their favorite new hoodie!

Bamboo Pop is a blend of 50% bamboo and 50% cotton, making it ideal for light-weight, multi-season garments and accessories. And with its soft feel, machine-washability, and palette of over 60(!!) colors, Bamboo Pop is the perfect choice when crafting for children. You’ll love knitting with this yarn as much as your little one loves wearing it!

Enjoy $3 off each skein of Bamboo Pop purchased through Monday, March 17th. And while you’re at it, check out all the amazing deals on select yarn and muud products in our St. Patrick’s Day Sale!

Free Pattern Friday – Half and Half Cardigan

Happy Friday, fellow crafters! I am super excited to introduce you to this week’s free pattern, the Half and Half Cardigan, designed by ME!

The Half and Half Cardigan is one of my favorite designs ever. Knit in soft and silky Wool Pop, in colors 605 Silken and 616 Denim, this cardigan is a fun take on color blocking. This piece is worked flat, from the top down, using intarsia color changes at the center back to create seamless blocks of color. With a flattering v-neck and close-fitting silhouette, this piece will keep you covered, pun intended, on all occasions as the weather turns.

The blend of 50% bamboo, 35% superwash wool, and 15% polyamide allow the fibers to absorb the dye differently, giving Wool Pop its distinctive heathered appearance. With a slight sheen and incredible drape, this multi-season yarn is one of our fan favorites. Get 20% off this luscious yarn this weekend, through Sunday, Sept 8th.

I am dreaming of a zesty version in 618 Lemongrass and 619 Blue Whisper, how about you?

Keep on crafting on!

Free Pattern Friday – Elemental Set

Happy Friday, fellow crafters! Today’s free pattern features the Elemental Set designed by the Universal Yarn Design Team.

The Elemental Set is just the ticket to start prepping for pumpkin spice season. The cowl is knit in the round as a tube and instructions are included for both a seamless and a seamed version. The hat is knit in the round from the brim up. Both pieces utilize a slip-stitch texture that showcases our vibrant Cobblestone yarn. This yarn is a 2-ply, 100% superwash merino, with one solid ply and one variegated ply, giving it the appearance of a handspun yarn. The Elemental Set uses one skein each of 101 Dragon’s Breath and 111 Paradise.

Cobblestone has 16 beautiful colors that come in a whopping 200g beehive skein. With approximately 612 yards to work with, these generously sized skeins are perfect for everything from accessories to garments.

Don’t miss out on your chance to stock up on these beauties with 20% off through Sunday, August 18th.

Free Pattern Friday – Speck Cowl

It’s the first Friday of May, and we have the perfect pattern for you! Today, the formerly paid-for Speck Cowl is now free forever! Originally featured in the Soft Simplicity E-Book, this accessory uses Uni Merino and Minou. There are two versions of the Speck Cowl, and both are free, so stick around as we learn more about this exciting freebie!

Uni Merino is a soft blend of superwash merino wool and nylon, while Minou is an eyelash yarn made from a blend of baby alpaca, merino wool, and nylon. When these two yarns collide, the result is an impressive texture that feels comfortable close to the skin. Plus, designer Rachel Brockman included two versions: Version A (left) uses two skeins of Minou for a fluffier texture, and Version B (right) uses just one skein of Minou.

Speck Cowl Version B

One of the most exciting parts of any project is picking out the hues you plan to use! Uni Merino has a wide color palette, and we want you to get creative! Below, we have a few ideas of color combinations that have you stepping out of your comfort zone but don’t worry, we think these would look breathtaking.

For a more sophisticated look, Minou 102 Lynx and Uni Merino 127 Kingfisher are an exceptional pair. But, if you’re looking to make a bold statement, we think Minou 101 Borzoi and Uni Merino Neons 152 Neon Pink will do that and more!

This weekend, we’re offering 20% off the entire Uni Merino Family! Plus, get an additional 20% off Minou and Minou Bag Quantities. These offers expire Sunday, May 5th, at 11:59 PM EST, so shop with us today and make your own Speck Cowl for less!

Free Pattern Friday – Ravishing Set

Happy Free Pattern Friday everyone! Today we are very excited to release the Ravishing Set perfect for your next day out on the town.

Designed by Afifa Sayeed, the Ravishing Set is knit using Rico Design Fashion Alpaca Superfine Heavens. This bulky-weight blend of alpaca and polyamide has a brushed, fluffy texture that is light, airy, and soft as a cloud. The six colorways of this stunning yarn feature self-shading hues that gently change from one to the next. Yarns like this are some of my absolute favorites to work with, they are such a treat!

The Ravishing Set is an on-trend beret and shrug duo. You’ll love the effortlessly chic results this pattern produces; it’s so easy to throw on over any outfit!

The Ravishing Set would be a great choice for beginner knitters looking to advance skills! Although you’ll be primarily working in simple stockinette stitch, both the beret and shrug feature a crochet provisional cast-on, shaping to create the silhouettes, and I-Cord bind offs for a polished finish. These skills can be applied to SO many knitting patterns.

I love a matching accessory set, don’t you? The shrug can also be styled more like a cowl if that is your preferred way to wear it. I think I’d choose color 005 Sundown if I were to knit this set for myself. Let us know which color you’d choose in the comments!

Happy Crafting,

Aubrey
