Free Pattern Friday – Cotton Candy Swirl

It’s Free Pattern Friday!

Today, enjoy Cotton Candy Swirl in Cobblestone (pattern link here).

Sometimes the simplest things are the sweetest. Such is the case with today’s free pattern, Cotton Candy Swirl. The open, boomerang-shaped shawl is a lively accessory to brighten up any day.

A field of triple crochet creates this colorful, fun accessory. One big beehive-style ball of soft, variegated Fibra Natura Cobblestone does the colorwork for you!

I’m such a fan of blues and greens that I think my personal shawl would be in color 106 Meadow, shown above. This would be such a great project for a crochet neophyte, or for anyone who wants to crochet while their attention is divided by good conversation.

Lovely, simple, and sweet, this free pattern is pretty and perfect.

Free Pattern Friday – Simple Scrubbies

It’s Free Pattern Friday!

Today, Simple Scrubbies in Rico Design Creative Bubble (pattern link here).

If you’ve ever needed a quick housewarming gift, this is for you. We’ve created two little scrubbies that are easy, practical, and look cute!

One scrubbie is knitted (shown above), and the other is crocheted (shown below).

We made both of these from a single ball of Creative Bubble, a super-fun yarn from Rico Designs that’s perfect for bath and clean-up projects.

If you’re going to make both of these from a single ball, be sure you get gauge. It wasn’t quite “yarn chicken” getting both from one ball, but there wasn’t a ton left over, either!

We love the cute little double-crochet loop for easy hanging!

Personally, we’d make a couple in different colors and include a bar of handcrafted soap. Such a thoughtful gift!

Free Pattern Friday – Draft Scarves

It’s Free Pattern Friday!

Today, the Draft Scarves in Fibra Natura Unity (pattern link here).

Recently, we’ve had requests for simple free patterns that are quick and easy. Well when it comes to lace, it doesn’t get much easier than this!

The Draft Scarves use a simple two-row repeat to create an airy, open mesh that’s perfect for summer. The wider black version above takes two balls of Fibra Natura Unity in color 110 Darkness…

…while the green, skinnier version takes just one ball of 103 Sage, and is still a generous 63″ without the fringe.

We chose Fibra Natura Unity as the yarn for this pattern for a couple of reasons. First, its thick and thin texture lends extra textural interest to the simple design. Second, the blend of wool, cotton, linen, and bamboo provides the perfect drape for a summertime scarf.

If you were in the mood for extra color, Unity Beyond would make a great choice. Or what about Unity Beyond for the body, with a coordinating solid for the fringe? There are plenty of options for customization here!

Free Pattern Friday – Trailhopper Hat

It’s Free Pattern Friday!

Today, the Trailhopper Hat in Mini Saki (pattern link here). You’ve all met the world’s cutest baby, right? Parker is the son of our warehouse shipping chief, and she brought him in when we needed a wee one to do a little modeling. A sweet little cherub for a sweet little hat!

The Trailhopper Hat starts at the very bottom, with those i-cord ties. Work your way up to the earflaps, then cast on for the brim. Rachel Brockman included a detail that is sometimes overlooked – casting on more for the front than the back, to be sure those earflaps are back just a bit from the face to give proper coverage.

Faux cable/right twist ribbing gives way to symmetrical decreases at the top. It all comes together to make a hat that looks neat on the noggin. All with just one 230yd ball of Mini Saki.

Just one more – here we see Parker, just before we realized it wasn’t a great idea to give him tissue paper. When you’re seven months old, everything is edible.

Free Pattern Friday – Rutherford Beret

It’s Free Pattern Friday!

Today, the Rutherford Beret in Deluxe Chunky (pattern link here). This month we’re taking a look back at some favorite patterns in our Deluxe yarns. This one’s a favorite of mine, based on personal experience. Will you permit me a selfie?

Amy Gunderson’s Rutherford Beret was originally released as part of the amazing Deluxe Cable Collection. It’s a mammoth e-book of cabled knit patterns, including this little one-skein beauty in Deluxe Chunky 100% wool. We even did an office knitalong with it – super fun!

I say “one skein” but mine only took 3/4 of a skein, max. On US size 10 (6mm) needles, with only single-crosses for the cables, this is the definition of “instant gratification knit.” Deluxe Chunky has over 120 colors, so I’m thinking about making another one, maybe in a heathered color this time.

Free Pattern Friday – Ladder Scarf in Cirrus Cotton

It’s Free Pattern Friday!

When is it okay to drop a stitch? When you’re making today’s free pattern, the one ball Ladder Scarf in Cirrus Cotton!

Cirrus Cotton (50g/109yds) is a soft, fuzzy cotton with a unique construction that makes it downy soft. Its extreme “touchability” makes it a favorite for baby projects, but we love it for grownup crochet and knit garments, too.

In this pattern, working some stitches through the back loop locks them into place, so that when the stitches are dropped to create the horizontal ladders, the scarf keeps its structure. Drop those stitches without fear!
